Laycock j type overdrive for sale4/5/2023 It eventually came down to "re-seating" the operating valve. Last spring, I was having problems with inconsistent engagement of th O/D. Everything looked good and the gears and synchros had normal rear patterns. I took advantage of this opportunity to pop the top cover and take a look. I have had other issues that required removal of the engine-gearbox three times in 24 years. Although I do only between 500 - 1000 miles each year, I have never had a problem. It turned out to be a simple electrical issue. When I bought the car, the O/D did not work. It was re-built once before I bought the car (CD1510 LO) and I had it rebuilt again about 20 years ago. This car has the original gearbox and O/D from the factory as verified by the build record. I have been running 20W-50 in the TR250, with A-type O/D since the late 1980's.
